I’m pleased to introduce you to a new album of my music, and I hope you can give it a listen. To listen, you can go to a whole bunch of music streaming platforms, including these better-known options:
I’ve called the album “In Case You Missed It” because, after I decided on the songs I wanted to record, I noticed a pattern. While they’re not obscure or unknown songs, they aren’t overly familiar either. They are all beautifully crafted, written by a variety of great songrwriters and reflecting a range of styles: jazz, blues and folk and broadway ballads. They might be the songs you heard a few times before but that didn’t really catch your fancy or that you liked but never got back to. Or they are tunes that passed you by completely. But here they are, in case you missed them (or never heard them before in the first place).
Even though I included all this information when I uploaded the tracks, somehow that it didn’t make it onto any of the streaming platforms I looked at. So here’s the lineup of my terrific collaborators, by track:
- Temptation (Lyrics and music by Tom Waits). Wayne Wilentz, piano; David Jernigan, bass; Leland Nakamura, drums; Jeff Weintraub, vocals.
- Buckets of Rain (Bob Dylan). Wayne Wilentz, piano; David Jernigan, bass; Leland Nakamura, drums; Matvei Sigalov, violin.; Jeff Weintraub, vocal.
- Illusion (Gregory Porter). Wayne Wilentz, piano; Jeff Weintraub, vocals.
- Jimmie Standing in the Rain (Elvis Costello). Wayne Wilentz, piano; David Jernigan, bass; Leland Nakamura, drums; Matvei Sigalov, violin; Jeff Weintraub, vocals.
- American Tune (Paul Simon). Jack Gruber, piano; Jeff Weintraub, vocals.
- Just the Motion (Richard Thompson). Jeff Weintraub, vocals and acoustic guitar.
- I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know (Al Kooper). Wayne Wilentz, piano; David Jernigan, bass; Leland Nakamura, drums; Matvei Sigalov, electric guitar; Jeff Weintraub, vocals.
- Shiver Me Timbers (Tom Waits). Jeff Gruber, bass, mandolin, electric guitar; Jeff Weintraub, vocals and acoustic guitar.
- Better Than Anything (Lyrics by Bill Loughborough and music by David Wheat). Wayne Wilentz, piano; David Jernigan, bass; Leland Nakamura, drums; Jeff Weintraub, vocal.
- Girl From The North Country (Bob Dylan). Jack Gruber, piano; Jeff Gruber, bass; Jeff Weintraub, vocals and acoustic guitar.
- More I Cannot Wish You (Frank Loesser). Wayne Wilentz, piano; David Jernigan, bass; Jeff Weintraub, vocals.
Jeff Gruber of Blue House Productions in Silver Spring, Maryland, recorded, engineered, mastered and otherwise beautifully massaged the sound. He also provided me some invaluable music lessons, and as you see above, added some of the backing instrumentation to a couple of tracks.
Naomi Rose Weintraub produced the cover art. And Audrey Lyon provided support and inspiration throughout.
Sorry, I’m not putting this in any mechanical format such as CD, vinyl LP or wax cylinder.
Over the next few months, I’m going to, one by one, write about each of the songs I recorded to give you more context and, frankly, to get you to go back, listen and boost my numbers a bit.
Thanks in advance for listening, and please, if you are so moved, please recommend the album to others. And please let me know what you think.
Jeff Weintraub
