On Thursday, August 21, I’ll be back at The Urban Winery, 2315 Stewart Avenue, in Silver Spring, Md., from 7 to 9 p.m. (I’ll be there again on September 18, but more about that later.)
And on Sunday, September 7, I’ll be the featured host of the D.C. Jazz Jam, at Haydee’s, 3102 Mount Pleasant St., NW, in D.C., from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. I’ve been asked to lead a tribute to Mel Tormé on the anniversary of his 100th birthday.
As usual, I’ll be fortunate to have some of the best jazz players along with me. Joining me at The Urban Winery will be Harry Appelman on keyboard and Paul Langosch on bass. At the Jazz Jam, Jack Gruber will be on keyboard, Leland Nakamura on drums and Steve Arnold on bass.
For a sense of what you might hear, click here to listen my album, “In Case You Missed It,” on your favorite music stream.
At The Urban Winery, there will be a $12.50 cover at the door. Click here to make a reservation. No cover at the Jam, but you’re strongly urged to buy food and/or drinks, and tipping is a thing.
The Urban Winery serves more than 30 wines produced on-site as well as a selection of other hand-crafted wines, beers, and spirits produced in the state of Maryland. Their international wine selection represents other small producers from around the globe and features a wide variety of grape expressions. And, yes, they do have a a light and tasty food menu to go along with your beverages.
The Jazz Jam has been around since 2009, and it’s always pulsing with a couple or three dozen musicians, nourished by good food and companionship. Haydee’s is run by Haydee Vanegas, her husband and her daughter, Mary Haydee, who serve up a delicious array of El Salvadoran food. Click here to see what’s on the menu.
Hope you can get out to one or both of these gigs.
Jeff
