On Thursday, July 17, I’ll be back at The Urban Winery, 2315 Stewart Avenue, in Silver Spring, Md., from 7 to 9 p.m.
I don’t know how I got this lucky, but I’ll be singing with two masters of the jazz craft: Donato Soviero on guitar and Paul Langosch on bass. I hope you can be there to hear us.
Paul has played with many jazz greats throughout his career, including Tony Bennett for over 20 years (see Paul’s poignant remembrance following Bennett’s death a few years ago), Phil Woods, George Shearing, Barney Kessel, Tal Farlow, Mose Allison, and many more.
Donato has appeared with top local and national artists in the Washington D.C. area since 1982 and led his own groups in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. He has appeared at the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, and the Carter Barron Amphitheater, Blues Alley, Twins Jazz, the Bohemian Caverns, the Smithsonian Jazz Café, Bethesda Jazz and Blues, and several Jazz festivals. He has been a member of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and co-led the Jazz-fusion group, He has been the recipient of awards, including a 1994 TAP Award from the D.C. Commission of the Arts and Humanities and a 1995 GIA Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and recorded extensively.

If you haven’t been there, The Urban Winery is a cozy, tucked-away place that serves more than 30 wines produced on-site as well as a selection of other hand-crafted wines, beers, and spirits produced in the state of Maryland. Their international wine selection represents other small producers from around the globe and features a wide variety of grape expressions for those who truly wish to explore the whole wide world of wine. And, yes, they do have a a light and tasty food menu to go along with your beverages.
Hope to see you there.
