If you missed us on June 2 when we inaugurated a new weekly jazz series at Bistro Bohem, well, it was a good time. Lots of people speaking many different languages, great food and drink. We’ll try to recreate that for you on Sunday, July 7, and Sunday, August 4, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. when we’re back at the Kafe.
Helping me out on July 7 will be Scott Giambusso (bass), Nick Lipkowski (guitar) and Robert Vetter (trumpet and keyboard), my first time playing with him. As usual, we’ll be playing Great American Songbook standards and maybe a few other surprises.
A relatively new arrival in the growing galaxy of innovative D.C. restaurants, Bistro Bohem recreates a Prague cafe ambiance in the historic U Street/Shaw neighborhood in D.C. Its Central European cuisine (well-known to my friends back in Chicago) is a rarity in these parts, and it has already won acclaim from reviewers and customers, who are packing the place regularly. So even if you’re not interested in the music, at least come for the culinary experience.
