On Thursday, January 15 — in the new year! — I’ll be back at The Urban Winery, 2315 Stewart Avenue, in Silver Spring, Md., from 7 to 9 p.m.  Joining me will be Benjie Porecki on keyboard, Paul Langosch on bass and Francis Thompson on drums.

For a sense of what you might hear, click here to listen my album, “In Case You Missed It,” on your favorite music stream.

At The Urban Winery, there will be a $10 cover at the door. Click here to make a reservation, which is helpful to have but not necessary.

This is my first time playing with Benjie, and you can see from his experience and his music why I’m so excited about that. He’s celebrated for his mastery of the B-3 organ, piano, and guitar, blending jazz, blues, funk, country, reggae, and R&B. He has released six acclaimed solo albums and collaborated with artists such as Carlos Santana, Chaka Khan, and Patti LaBelle. His latest album, “All that Matters,” continues to push musical boundaries. Just last week it broke into the top 100 of the JazzWeek national radio charts for 2025.

Paul has played with many jazz greats throughout his career, including Tony Bennett for over 20 years (see Paul’s poignant remembrance following Bennett’s death a few years ago), Phil Woods, George Shearing, Barney Kessel, Tal Farlow, Mose Allison, and many more. Listen to his bass on this live recording with vocalist Jon Hendricks.

Francis received his BA degree with a major in percussion performance from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. His range in music styles and performance experience have allowed him to record and perform artist including; jazz saxophonist- Davey Yarburough, jazz vocalist- Esther Williams, contemporary jazz pianist- Dan Reynolds, jazz/blues vocalist- Pam Parker, Latin jazz group Caribe Son and South African group Mahala. He is presently the director of percussion at the famed Duke Ellington School of the Arts and the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, D.C.

The Urban Winery serves more than 30 wines produced on-site as well as a selection of other hand-crafted wines, beers, and spirits produced in the state of Maryland and around the world. They also have a tasty food menu to go along with your beverages.

Hope you can make it on January 15. Happy new year!

Jeff
